What’s Really Behind Kanye’s Erratic Behavior?

By  |

It hasn’t been an easy month for Kanye West to say the least. While most of us spent Thanksgiving with our friends and family, Kanye remained hospitalized at the UCLA Medical Center following a string of strange events. Details regarding his mental health are slim, however according to recent reports, he suffered a temporary psychosis stemming from sleep deprivation and extreme dehydration. Kanye’s erratic behavior began during his shows where he publicly endorsed Donald Trump, criticized radio stations, and denounced his relationship (or lack thereof) with long time friend Jay Z. But the final straw was when he abruptly cut his Sacramento show short after performing 3 songs. Both celebrities and fans took to social media to express their frustrations:

Kanye’s rants or “streams of consciousness” as he would call them have always been an added layer to his complexity as an artist. But his erratic behavior leading up to the abrupt cancellation of his Saint Pablo tour, as well as his hospitalization has left fans wondering what’s really behind his public outbursts. While there are rumblings his hospitalization is possibly an attempt to recoup the loss of pulling out of his tour which would cost him upwards of $16 million, Kanye has shown his behavior may not be as random as the public perceives it to be.

Back in 2007, Kanye’s mother Donda West passed away after complications from a cosmetic surgery and could still possibly be a trigger for his outbursts. Since then, he’s taken to Twitter on multiple occasions to express his grief:

Also, his strained relationship with mentor and frequent collaborator Jay Z could also play a factor in the diminishment of his mental and emotional stability. During a concert he went on to say:

“I’ve been sent here to give y’all my truth, even at the risk of my own life. Even at the risk of my own success, my own career. I’ve been sent here to give y’all the truth. Jay Z, call me, bro. You still ain’t called me. Jay Z, call me. Hey, bruh, Jay Z, I know you got killers, please don’t send them at my head. Just call me. Talk to me like a man.”

While news continues to develop about Kanye’s hospitalization, celebrities and fans have openly showed support for him:

Though West is clearly going through a difficult time, it’s heartwarming to see that he has public support. We’re wishing Kanye a speed recovery.
