Your Thanksgiving Meal (In A Playlist)

By  |

Thanksgiving is upon us, and if you’re going to be celebrating the holiday with a traditional meal, it’s only right that you bring something to share with friends and family.  Sure, a side dish or some sort of desert might be a typical go-to pick, but why not provide the perfect musical soundtrack to the meal with a playlist of free music downloads that represents all of the components that make T-Day great?  You can thank us later…

1) Beck – “Nicotine and Gravy”

If you don’t have gravy on everything, you’re doing it wrong. It might be a good idea to lay off the nicotine, though. Beck’s grooving Midnite Vultures single is sure to turn even the most formal sit-down dinner into a party.

2) Weezer – “Pork and Beans”

Remember kids, ham is technically pork. Weezer’s anthemic “Pork and Beans” is a proud celebration about staying true to who you are, no matter what anyone else thinks. You’re going to need that attitude when your dad asks you what you’re doing with your life. Hopefully you say you’re downloading free music on Trebel.

3) Ghostface Killah feat. Trife Da God – “Biscuits”

Forget any clever wordplay that can be derived from the song title here, and just listen to the opening moments of Ghostface Killah’s “Biscuits.” Do you hear how angry he is about having to eat chocolate instead of the banana nutriment that he ordered? Listen, if you happen to be so lucky enough to break bread with the one and only Tony Starks this holiday season, PLEASE take special care to ensure that you get the food he wants. The Wu-Tang Clan, as the classic colloquialism tells us, is clearly nothing to f*ck with.

4) Lil Debbie – “Yams”

Yams look really sweet and you probably really enjoy the experience of consuming them, but if you stop to think about it, they’re probably not the healthiest decision. The same can be said about former White Girl Mob member Lil Debbie, whose “Yams” is a bass-heavy jam that may not actually be about yams at all.

5) Rjd2 – “Bus Stop Bitties”

Has a song about corn bread and lima beans ever sounded so funky? No. The answer is no. Rjd2 may not have been aware that he was crafting the ultimate Thanksgiving dinner anthem when he created this soulful jam, but it certainly is an appropriate song for the occasion.

6) John Lennon – “Cold Turkey”

Okay, serving your turkey cold is a pretty big faux pas at the Thanksgiving table, but John Lennon’s “Cold Turkey” grooves like it’s straight off a hot plate. It’s also a great opportunity to help shift the conversation towards your uncle’s obvious drug addiction. Hooray, your holiday dinner just turned into an intervention!

7) Don McLean – “American Pie”

Why not wrap things up with a classic song like Don McLean’s “American Pie?” Not only is it the ideal soundtrack for your dessert (we are, after all, gathering together to celebrate the genesis of America), but most Thanksgiving dinners tend to feel like they’re running a little long anyway – so why not just address that feeling with a song that sort of feels like it’s never going to end, either?

Stuff your face with these songs and a boat load of other free downloads on the Trebel app!
