5 Unlikely Artists that Would Make Great Christmas Music

By  |

‘Tis the season to be jolly, Fa la…okay enough. It’s Christmas time and Christmas music is upon us, and instead of taking the traditional route, it’s time to think outside the box and get down to some (hypothetical) facts. Here’s a list of some unlikely artists that would make really great Christmas music if given the opportunity (you can download music from these artists for free on the Trebel app here):

John Mayer:

When you have a voice as silky as John Mayer’s, it would be virtually impossible to make anything that sounds bad. That, coupled with his amazing guitar skills, I’d imagine he’d make a mellow Christmas ballad with a killer guitar solo. In fact, let’s just take a moment to marvel at his skills:

Nicki Minaj:

Yeah, I said it. Nicki Minaj may be known for her hard hitting punchlines and clever bars, but I’m confident she can show off her softer side and deliver a fun Christmas song. If nothing else, the Trinidadian MC already has a head start, when she managed to work in the names of all of Santa’s reindeer in her feature verse on Usher’s “Little Freak.” Check out her verse below:

Bruno Mars:

If there’s one thing Bruno Mars has proven, it’s he knows how to have a good time! A funk infused “12 Days of Christmas” inspired song would be a perfect fit to his already impressive catalog. Not to mention, his contagious dance moves would be an added bonus that would jump start any holiday party. His “24K Magic” performance at this year’s AMA’s is a perfect example of what he could bring to a Christmas table. Watch:

The Weeknd:

This self proclaimed starboy has all the ingredients to put a dark and sexy twist on a holiday we’ve associated with jovial tunes. While it may seem a little unexpected, I’d imagine The Weeknd to take a “Nightmare Before Christmas” approach to the theatrical holiday and put his signature eerie emphasis in a way only he knows how to do.

Lady Gaga:

Fresh off the release of her highly anticipated album Joanne, Lady Gaga is the perfect artist to top off this list. Not only does she have the vocal range, but it would be interesting to see what creative approach she would take to Christmas music. Recently she performed “Ay-O” & “John Wayne” at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show, and if that stellar performance is an indication of how creative she can get, there’s no question she’d create a cool, creative Christmas classic. Check out her performance below:
