3 Bands You Need To Check Out From Atlanta

By  |

Atlanta is a mecca of music. There have been some absolutely incredible acts that have come from this area. You might know B.O.B. for his smash hit like Airplanes or Nothin’ On You  (with Bruno Mars before he became the superstar he is now), or you might know him for his recent rant on twitter about how the Earth is flat. Other artists from the city include the christian Family Force 5 and post-rock Manchester Orchestra. Even though it seems that rap and trap might be some of the biggest genre’s coming from the city, there are a few rising bands in the area that might surprise you.

1. Microwave

This post-rock band blends their music with a blend of hardcore vocals and melodic rock. The combination is something completely unique and mesmerizing. The band is full of personality and their music videos show their sense of humor in every scene. The members of the band care about their supporters, even sometimes including a personal note on shirts ordered from their website. Give their most recent EP Stovall a listen and catch them on tour with the pop-punk powerhouses The Wonder Years.

2. The Funeral Portrait

The members of this band have been in the music scene for year and have recently signed to Revival RecordingsThe Funeral Portrait have a unique theatrical sound to all their music. A mix of hardcore and clean vocals showcase the band’s diverse talents. On top of all that, they are commonly praised as some of the nicest guys on the scene and their facebook reflects that. The interaction they have with their fans set them apart from any of the other bands in the scene. The Funeral Portrait are currently working on a new CD and are planning a tour with goth-rock band Davey Suicide. Don’t miss out on The Funeral Portrait’s high energy shows.

3. Lil Yachty

Lil Yachty is the rising star of Atlanta right now. You might have heard this 18-year-old’s hit “Minnesota” if you pay any attention to Drake’s OVO Radio. Or maybe you’ve heard his viral hit “1 Night,” with over 18 million hits at the time of this article. Lil Yachty was recently featured as one of few rappers to be on the Yeezy Season 3 show, where Kanye brought on as an extra during the release of West’s next season of his fashion line at Madison Square Garden. While on more of the popular mediums (music streams, YouTube, and facebook) it may not look like Lil Yachty is blowing up, he is a star of soundcloud. On the website, hardly any of his songs have under 300,000 streams. In fact, most of his songs are growing over half a million and more. Lil Yachty is an artist that you can expect to see more of in the upcoming months.
