2017 is the Year of Reconciliation for Drake
The first quarter of 2017 isn’t even complete yet and Drake is coming off two Grammy wins, touring Europe on his “Boy Meets World” Tour and gearing up for his highly anticipated playlist “More Life.” While all of that is enough to keep him busy, based off the last few weeks it seems as though mending relationships sits at the top of the OVO frontman’s priority list.
For fans across the globe, OVOXO was a dying notion. What was once supposed to be an incomparable duo out of Canada, quickly became a quiet rivalry that fans both knew little about and speculated heavily. After years of wondering what kind of terms The Weeknd and Drake were on, rumors were put to rest when The Weeknd invited Drake on his “Legend of the Fall” Tour. Never missing an opportunity to say what’s on his mind, Drake took the stage to proclaim not only is OVOXO as strong as it’s ever been, but The Weeknd’s “House of Balloons” mixtape is his in his top five greatest albums. While fans rejoiced after the public OVOXO conformation, Drake one-upped himself by getting another superstar on the same page. Going into 2017, the tension between Drake and his label mate Nicki Minaj has been chronicled through his music. Things he’s previously addressed on tracks like “Keep the Family Close” and “Tuscan Leather.” But given their newly restored friendship, Drake is now singing a new tune. During a Paris stop on his “Boy Meets World” Tour, Drake surprised fans by bringing Nicki out to perform a few songs:
Though it wasn’t the first time they publicly showed they were on good terms, it was the first time they shared a stage together since 2015. The Young Money rappers even did a joint song called ‘No Frauds’ in a display of solidarity on Nicki’s behalf in response to Remy Ma’s scathing diss track “Shether.” There’s no word on whether Nicki will be featured on “More Life” but now that they’re back to what they once were, anything is possible.
